Does this Rock Band Drum Pad Silencer mod really work?

In our tests, the noise difference is immediately noticeable. The high pitched tapping is replaced with a deeper, fuller sound while reducing overall loudness and silencing the drum kit. Is there any loss in sensitivity or hit detection?
No, there shouldn't be. Testing has shown that users expereince the same hit detection, or even increased detection when the Rock Band drum pads are installed. The extra bounce also gives the drummer extra stamina to complete those very difficult songs!
How do I install the Rock Band Drum Pads?
* The installation is very easy. No gluing, tools, or cutting is required.
* Our five minute Peel and Stick installation:
o Carefully peel off the paper backing from your pad. Be very careful with the adhesive supplied with gum rubber. It may come off due to low friction of the gum rubber. You may need to use your fingernail to get between the adhesive and the paper backing.
o Place one edge of the pad against the existing gray drum pad. Ensure that the pad is touching the interior of the black plastic ring, on top of the gray part of the pad.
o While maintaining the contact of the pad to inside of the black plastic ring, press your finger down on the pad, adhering the pad to the controller.
o Continue pressing the edge of the pad down to the controller as you make your way around the entire pad.
o As you make your way around the pad with your finger, if you notice your pad is off center, just continue moving your finger around the circle pressing the pad towards the edge and eventually you will work out any air or unevenness in your mod.
o If for any reason the pad doesn't come out looking great the first time, the pads can easily be reapplied.
o When adding an additional layer to the top, peel off the paper backing from the pad, and place the pad directly on top of the bottom pad.
What are the differences between the foam pads and the gum rubber pads?
The Rock Band Foam Pads:
-Dampen sound well
-Have a nice visual appeal to them
-Adhere well to the drums w/o loss of sensitivity
-Are recommended for casual to normal Rock Band drummers
The Rock Band Gum Rubber pads:
-Dampen sound well
-Last longer due to the natural gum rubber material
-Generally don't provide loss of sensitivity, but can in some instances (some folks use gum rubber along with sock mod)
-Are recommended by the Rock Band community for pro & expert Rock Band drummers
What if I have problems with the self-adhesive supplied with the gum rubber pads?
The adhesive supplied with the gum rubber pads is only meant as a temporary adhesive. This is due to the low friction of natural gum rubber. We have tried to find the strongest self-adhesive possible, but in some cases, it does not stick, or hold up after repeated playing.
As recommended in the Rock Band forums, you can try different adhesives. Make sure to clean the gum rubber with Isopropyl alcohol first and let them completely dry. Once this is complete, you can use rubber cement, or a spray adhesive for the best quality.

Generally speaking, the drum pad silencer mod comes off fairly easily with no noticeable difference before application. You can also reapply the drum pad silencer mod several times.
